Conversation Cafe 2023

And that’s a wrap!

What a life-affirming way to end the year with a Christmas get-together. With a delicious Christmas spread provided by Nyax from Living Solo Initiative. The upstairs hall expertly decorated by art teacher, Adela’s festive cut-outs, creating a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.

We started our weekly conversation café early in 2023 as another way for people newly arrived in Glasgow to meet people from the local community, practice English in a more informal environment, enjoy a warm nourishing home-cooked meal & make new friends. Advice is always on hand and Living Solo often provide free toiletries. These small things can make such a difference!

There is a huge need and demand for grass-roots initiatives like this just now in Glasgow and beyond – and we are proud as a community-led charity, to be partnering up with Migrant Voice and Living Solo Initiative each week to offer our help & support. And by no means forgetting the important role our volunteers play. We thank you all!

A lot happens on a Thursday lunchtime as well as talking & eating! Highlights over 2023 have included:

  • A home energy-saving workshop with Isaro Initiative

  • Presentations from students at Glasgow School of Art Masters in Innovation Design, showcasing their work.

  • A presentation from our university placement student, James on social work today.

  • Keeping up to date on immigration law with Migrant Voice

  • An illustration workshop with Migrant Voice and Rosie from @illustrationsetc

  • Black History Month 2023 – Celebrating Our Sisters (with the most delicious African food!)

  • St Andrews Day – Scotland and Poland style, with a little bit of dancing and a traditional meal of haggis neeps & tatties. (Irn-bru on the side!)

  • Food Waste & Compost making with Jenny from Glasgow Community Food Network

  • Polish Christmas decoration workshop with Marzanna and Veronika.

2024 is just around the corner! Plans for early next year include some community cooking workshops – From my home to yours – sharing food from around the world. Keep an eye on our news and socials for how to get involved!

The Thursday ‘café’ will be off for a few weeks and will resume on Thursday 18th January 2024 at 12pm. We wish you all a peaceful festive break & look forward to joining together again in 2024.
