Community Projects

Seniors Art Club

No matter if you are a professional amateur, or have not made something since primary school, you will be completely at home!

Seniors Art Club
Thursdays 2.30-4PM FREE
All materials & refreshments provided.

We invite local senior citizens to join us for a weekly art class - no experience required! Painting, drawing, printing, and experimenting in a relaxed atmosphere with our experienced art teacher.

Local trips

We go on occasional art related trips, sometimes teaming up with the GMC community health walks ‘Behind Closed Doors’ group. Our recent trip to the University’s  Hunterian Art Gallery was a great success - and we grabbed a well-deserved coffee afterwards at the university’s new Learning Hub.

‘It was a lovely walk through the park and really impressed with the university art gallery and guided tour. Inspired to get my paints out as there were empty frames, so come on art class walkers!’ Eileen, art class participant’

Get Cosy, Staying warm in Garnethill

An exhibition of tea cosies created by the Garnethill Multicultural Centres Senior Art Class, inspired by the tea cosy collection at The Glasgow School of Art’s Archive and Collection

Reid Building, Glasgow School of Art, April -May 2023

So joyfully Cosy! One of our favourite projects so far, working with Sara and @GSAArchive and @catdigital to design and create our tea cosies as well as our fantastic, printed tea towels (on sale soon!). To have our work displayed in the art school, and alongside historic embroidered cosies from the GSA archive was a real honour. You can see more photos of our work, and a video of the opening night (look out for the life-size human teapot with cosy!) on our Instagram @garnethillmcc

This club is currently full, but please email community@garnethillmc.co.uk to register your interest and join the waitlist. We are looking at running a 2nd class if there is enough interest.
