This Saturday, Strip the Willow on Sauchiehall Street!
For Burns Night, you are invited to join in Glasgow's big outdoor Strip the Willow dance down the recently reopened pedestrian thoroughfare of Sauchiehall Street, to celebrate a new year, and new street. Led by professional dancers and a band of pipers, this event encourages people of all ages to come together and celebrate the street’s heritage through dance and music.
Date: Saturday 25 January 2025
Time: 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Meeting point: outside Edward House, 199 Sauchiehall Street
Sauchiehall Street’s name originates from the old Scots language, and means “Willow Meadow”, referring to a time when the area was no more than a moorland lined with willow trees. Dance also forms a part of the street’s heritage, from the Locarno Ball Room to the many dance halls, music venues and club nights which live on in the memories Glaswegians across generations.
This event is supported by The National Piping Centre and coincides with Celtic Connections.
