Picturing Garnethill

A community project to create new bespoke curtains for the Multicultural Centre’s upstairs hall.

What’s it all about?

Local illustrator Rosie Cunningham has been working hard behind the scenes on our Picturing Garnethill project to design bespoke curtains for the centre. Here is ‘Renfrew Street East’ one of eight digital collages Rosie has created from all the work that's been submitted.

‘Renfrew Street East’  covers the The Glasgow School of Art's Mack building (as was and will be again) and the nearby gem of an art shop, Paint and Mortar. It's also taking in some of Rose Street featuring the excellent Glasgow Film Theatre

At the moment Rosie is continuing to draw the places that have sponsored the project and pulling together the collages to create the overall pattern, ready for Centre for Advanced Textiles to print onto fabric for our curtains! We are really excited! Test fabric samples are already being printed at CAT Digital. Watch this space for updates & to be the first to hear about the launch event!

About the project

This creative project started with some small community workshops in the Multicultural Centre with Rosie; with the goal of creating new bespoke curtains for the Multicultural Centre’s upstairs hall. The last ones were donated by a local shop a couple of decades back (AT LEAST) and they need replaced! Now, we have lots of drawings, memories and community input for the designs.

Many local organisations and businesses  based in Garnethill got involved. Their help is going towards realising the project - paying a local artist to work on the project, printing the fabric, making the curtains and the launch event too. In return they will receive an illustration of their business - a digital copy for their socials and a framed picture for their wall.

Community collaboration is where it’s at!
