Clay workshops at GMC!

We ran a series of clay workshops at the centre over October and November, where we learnt hand building techniques and collaboratively made a candleholder celebrating the life of local artist Hilda Goldwag. This involved a visit to the archives at the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre, where we learnt more about Hilda’s life in Glasgow, looked at her earlier drawings, the inspiration she found in the local area such as Cowcaddens and the canal, and the journey she made to Scotland as a refugee in 1939.

In the workshops, we also made coil pots, tiles and candleholders, which the group could take home with them. Most of the group were beginners with clay, but it was fun to experiment and try out a new medium over a few weeks. It led to some beautiful results shown below…
