Make a willow lantern, and bring it to our parade down Sauchiehall St!

As part of Glasgow’s 850th Birthday celebrations, we are hosting a lantern parade down Sauchiehall Street in late March (date TBC). This draws inspiration from the street’s past, “Sauchiehall” is a Scots word loosely meaning ‘Field of willows”. So, let’s come together with our lanterns, walk the street, and celebrate as a community. We will keep you posted with more details of the parade!

Connie, the children’s art teacher, has been working with the kids on their lantern over the last few weeks. This March, we invite EVERYONE to our public willow lantern making workshops at the Garnethill Multicultural Centre. The making workshops will be FREE and DROP IN, no experience needed. You can learn how to use willow and make your own lantern.

The workshops are family friendly, children should be accompanied. Refreshments provided!

Workshop dates:

Saturday 1st March, 12-4pm

Wednesday 5th March, 11.30-2.30pm

Sunday 16th March, 12-4pm

Any questions, or if you would like to volunteer at the workshops or parade, please email community@garnethillmc.co.uk.
